Diamondback 2012 Trace Comp Dual Sport Bike (Blue, 18-Inch/ Medium)

Product Description

The Diamondback Trace Comp doesn't make the roads and trails easier, but it does help make your ride so. Start with a butted T6 aluminum dual sport frame and throw in double wall 700c wheels, and a Shimano Alivio 8-speed drive train and rapid fire shifters. Take that and add in Hayes HMX-5 mechanical disc brakes to make stopping a piece of cake. And the piece de resistance - a SR Suntour NVX-MLO fork with 75 mm of travel and a mechanical lock out. Try a Diamondback Trace Comp and see where your legs can take you.

5Great bike
By A. Kissee
This bike is a great combination of mountain and road. A bit on the heavy side for a lot of road riding but it works well. The disk brakes are amazing. Bike came with a slightly bent rear wheel. Diamondback quickly sent out a replacement free of charge.

4really great combination
By Bryce Deary
I bought to replace my K2 zed hardtail that was stolen. I found that I was riding mostly on the street an on well maintained trails so I really didn't need a full mountain bike. This is a great combination. 4 stars because there was a mixture of manuals provided to put it all together, but the bike seems solid. Will update after a few weeks of riding it.UpdateOk after a few hundred miles and several trips on Amtrak I am really happy with this bike. My 14 year old son was riding it to summer school but it was a bit big so we bought another one one size down (The grey base model without the disk brakes). Would still recommend this bike. I am pretty heavy (240 lbs) and this bike still feels secure and well put together even when jumping curbs. The only complaint I have is the presta valves in the tubes are a pain.

5Took some patience, but not disappointed
By Nico
I did first order a Trace model, but Amazon had a deal I couldn't refuse. The big pluses with the Trace comp are better tires, a front suspension fork that you can block (that can be very useful going up hills), and the disk brakes. It took Amazon three times to send the good one, but the good one is the good one, especially at the superb deal that Amazon had at that time. The first bike was not well packaged and came with scratches and a broken rear derailleur cable. The second had a more serious problem: the space between the fork dropouts was too small to insert the front wheel. However, I really saw a potential in that bike and its components, and I did not want to give up. The third one was the good one.Yes, when you a buy a bike online, there is an assembly required. It was mostly straightforward (but I should note that I now assembled nearly 4 bikes in the last month). The assembly consists mostly of mounting the handle bar, front disk brake, front wheel, and adjusting the derailleurs. Check out some youtube video if you're unsure about how to adjust the rear and front derailleurs or go to your local bike shop (it can be as low as $25 for the derailleurs). If you do it yourself, it is best if you find a way to hang the bike. The first time I did assemble a Trace bike took several hours, the last assembly took me less than an hour.I have now ridden my Trace Comp for over 50 miles on road and light terrain, and very happy with it. It is comfortable, fast, gears shift smoothly. I give 5 stars for the bike and its components. As a previous review noted, the color is a much darker blue, and in my opinion looks much better than in the online pics.
